About This Program

Two documentaries, a short and a feature, treat a similar theme: some things should not be forgotten.

An Edited Life

Director: Faure Mat

Documentary Short, USA, 2018, 40 min, Color, Student Project (New York University, New York City, US)

From the director: “At 79 years old, former film editor Jocelyne Bourgeois is goaded, coaxed, challenged by me, her persistent filmmaker grandson, to face her true identity, because it is my story too. We embark together to the places she has avoided since WWII, putting back the scenes she edited out. Facing this deleted past is painful but a life-changing gift for us both.”

Great Lakes connection: The director is a student in New York City.

An Armenian Trilogy

Documentary Feature, USA, 2018, 48 min, Color

About the Film

An Armenian Trilogy was created by metro Detroit jingle writer Dan Yessian. The film tracks Dan’s life from budding musician to creator of some of America’s most recognized advertising tunes such as Whirlpool’s “We’re Making Your World a Little Easier” and Dodge Boys “Have More Fun.”

Dan’s life took a dramatic turn in 2014 when he was asked by his church to write a composition to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the murder of 1.5 million Armenians. It continues with Dan’s visit to his ancestral homeland and the triumphant debut of his music performed there by the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra in 2017.

Great Lakes connection:

Dan Yessian is an award-winning composer, producer, musician, and founder of Yessian Music Inc., a Metro Detroit-based music, production and sound design company which serves motion picture, television and advertising industries around the globe.
